Built between three slopes of Taygetos Mountain, Kastania has such a natural fortification and for that reason it is visible only when someone gets near it.
By visiting the village, the visitor will be definitely amazed. Here you will find the unique typical for the area rooftops made from stone slabs, and Byzantine churches decorated by brilliant frescoes. The stunning and recently restored Dourakis’ tower and the Church of Agios Petros (St. Peter) are characteristic samples of the Mani architecture. There is a tavern in the village square.
